An AC pressure switch, which should read the pressure level on the system, is what triggers the grip to engage. With low-pressure levels, the activation switch cannot signal the clutch to engage. At this point, the system does not work as there is no circulation of the refrigerant.

Visible freon leaks- When there are visible signs of refrigerant leaking it's a bad sign you need an auto ac recharge. Greasy film on the AC equipment or pools of refrigerant under your car is a sign you are losing Freon from a leakage.
